The text on the back says:

Charles Elderton created a group of North East Toreadors to perform on the site that would become Spanish City. In 1908 it was officially opened with a three-arched entrance leading to a fairground. Two years later, the iconic dome was built.

Acrobatic performers and exotic creatures such as, hyenas and tigers would appear in the first years. In the subsequent years it was changed into a cinema, occupied by the military during World War I, converted into a ballroom in 1920 and during the 1960s it became a bingo hall. During the 1970s the site began a slow decline until eventually, it was closed in 2002. Following years of restoration work Spanish City was reopened in 2018.
