Lindisfarne Castle is a testament to the rich history of Northumberland. It was built in 1550 on the cliffs of Beblowe Craig, using stones from the nearby Lindisfarne Priory. The castle remained in Crown hands until it was purchased privately in 1901. The interior was refurbished in the Arts and Crafts style by Edwin Lutyens, while the garden was designed by Gertrude Jekyll. To capture the full majesty of the castle, the artist decided to paint it at sunrise, when the light creates a unique and enchanting atmosphere.
